I think Böhmi tried to compress the story of his insult poem too much. The most important information would have been, that it was a response to a very harmless piece of a german show called "Extra-3", where Erdogan said he got insulted by the show. THEN Böhmermann did this Poem to educate Erdogan about the difference of humour and an insult! So that is why I find this poem so hilarious and cleverly presented! Poor guy, he always gets very serious when it comes to this topic!
Biggest problem for Böhmermann is, that a big part of his genius is his eloquence, speed of talking and catchy pronounciation in German. It all gets lost, when he's talking in English immediately, cause then he's got to think before he speaks.
You mean the biggest part of his genius is that he isn't able to form a whole sentence? I mean the guy can barely speak I'm really confused why he was on the radio and now is on tele.
Carlos Chilipimmel He can actually speak English quite well for an adult who most likely didn’t need to use a lot of English throughout his life, so while it’s obviously some rusty high school level second language that was brushed up, it was brushed up pretty well.
@@jenna_maria Did you even hear a German speak with rusty English skills? No, because most Germans forget almost everything and are only able to give the most rudimentary responses a few years after exiting high school. Jan's strongly above-average grasp on the english language, that even teachers could compete with, is an exception. I live in Germany and go to a school that would be the equivalent to an American high school and they can't even use the right form of "be" and forget to put the "s"es on words. They literally speak worse than his "rusty English". I'm literally the exception as a student together with a few other people.
Nichl As I said, it was “brushed up pretty well”. You can’t deny his accent and some minor mistakes, most people his age who are of the same education standard as him speak a similar level of English. It’s not like he studied English at university, so yes most of his English has its roots in his high school education. I went to school in Germany as well and I have my Abitur and a lot of people in my English classes, even those who hadn’t been the best English speakers during high school, were able to improve their English for their jobs as adults. He isn’t on an English teacher level, I’m sorry but your English teachers must not have been good if you think so. That said, allow me to add that I’m compring high school to the German Oberstufe and not the German Mittelstufe.

For foreigners it might be easier to understand if you look at him like a satirical prankster. His stage personality is different from his private personality, which he likes to disguise from the public by inventing contrived stories. Some context: In March of 2017 another German satire program "extra 3" broadcast a song lampooning Erdogan and his autocratic politics. Erdogan responded by summoning the German ambassador and demanding the cancellation of the show. Then, in answer to Erdogan's overreaction and the public discussion about it, Böhmermann read his "deliberately hurtful" poem, rife with apparent falsehoods, so as to illustrate where the line between free speech and defamation really lies. The essence of the joke was this: "No, Erdogan, what they did was perfectly fine, what I'll do now, on the other hand, isn't." Also: Who does Böhmermann think he is appearing on international talk shows with his atrocious English? (edit: changed the wording a bit to prevent further misunderstandings)
What do you mean with "atrocious english"? His english is better than most Swedes and Germans english. -"deliberately hurtful and had no basis in facts." Sounds pretty much like what you expect from a comedian? At least an edgy comedian...
1. "atrocious English": 8:40 2. "deliberately hurtful": That's the point he made. It wasn't about saying crass things to be edgy. He's not an insult comic. The joke was: Free speech has its limits, and just so you know what they are, THIS is was you cannot do... and then he does it.
1. I think that was hilarious, perfect imitation of how Germans are portrayed in media/movies etc. 2. I'll have to back off of this one, because I have not found and seen the actual clip yet. I will try and find the clip with sub titles (I guess the original clip (the poem) was in German?

I only find poem...not more not less, like turks like me. I didn´t like it at first, even i hate Erdogan. It was not so funny....after many month i found in a "illegal internetpage" whole show, what he said BEVOR this poem and its is ofcource very different thing if you understand whole contex. So not big suprise many "Erdogan´s Lemmings" get crazy.
1:39 unfortunately that didnt go so well... hahha.. we europeans are way to confident about this freedom we got. many still take it for granted when actually we have to fight for it again.
For us you are all friendly troll people .... lol. Well not really like that, but I have never seen any german complaining about skandinavian people at all.
When I was in the german navy and we had an operation in norway and afterwards went to celebrate in the habor. Some norway kids/gangsters tried to fight some sole soldiers that were returning alone and drunk and were shouting stuff like "nazi". Maybe we shouldn't have went to party in uniform lol... (true story)
So to every english speaking reading this, He did this to show people how far satire is legally allowed to go. He uses his freespeech rights full out, to show what he can legally do. (and afterwards still get arrested because Germany is a coward in these situations since the 2000s and Erdogan does whatever he wants, even if hes not following the law) And I absolutely love how they think hes meaning what he says, hes been f**king with them all the time. Like 5:11 that was a joke. But they think hes meaning it. Mabye because they think "Oh Germans have no humor"

Sein englisch hat sich sehr verbessert . Respekt
This guy is the best comedian, cabaretist, next to Martin sonneborn and nico semsrott, Germany has to offer
Nothing but respect for these guys
no the guy is awful
10:16 i love how the blonde dude in the bottom left tries to sneeze and has a tiny laughter escape in that moment :D its so funny it makes me laugh everytime, just because its so catchy to laugh with him ^^
hiz englisch iz ja veri guud. ze German peepel schod not feel bad about zem!
VikingSail you sound like arnold schwarzenegger
Jano Tyrann ich know ja
I like zet itz fanni
Alta Vadda :D :D HAHAHA Ihr seid yes alle krayzee!
at first i thought this was dutch
Some context:
In March of 2017 another German satire program "extra 3" broadcast a song lampooning Erdogan and his autocratic politics. The essence of the joke was this: "No, Erdogan, what they did was perfectly fine, what I'll do now, on the other hand, isn't."
Also: Who does Böhmermann think he is appearing on international talk shows with his atrocious English?
(edit: changed the wording a bit to prevent further misunderstandings)
What do you mean with "atrocious english"? His english is better than most Swedes and Germans english.
-"deliberately hurtful and had no basis in facts."
Sounds pretty much like what you expect from a comedian? At least an edgy comedian...
1. "atrocious English": 8:40
I will try and find the clip with sub titles (I guess the original clip (the poem) was in German?
pedterson well now you can do it and boehmermann is the reason so his porm actually achieved something great. It wasn't for nothing and certainly not a mistake.
Solche prätentiösen Lappen wie dich gab es schon unter den Seth Meyers Videos mit Böhmermann. Vielleicht kannst du geschwollen englisch Reden, interessant bist du trotzdem nicht.
That interviewer is so cold xD
What is this pale thin boy doing there on stage? Please tell him to leave
I wanna see the studio
Ahh I see your a fellow melon aswell.
Melooooon
What an amazing performance. Didn’t expect to be entertained by that old grandpa that much :)
I´m turkish citizen and absolutly agains Erdogan. After this happend i try to find out in Internet "whats going on" and "what Böhmermann said". I only find poem...not more not less, like turks like me. I didn´t like it at first, even i hate Erdogan. It was not so funny....after many month i found in a "illegal internetpage" whole show, what he said BEVOR this poem and its is ofcource very different thing if you understand whole contex. So not big suprise many "Erdogan´s Lemmings" get crazy.
they dont underschänd his görman humor
Gosh the moderator is taking this so seriously🤣
He's interviewing him.
I know right WHY SO SERIOUS MR COMEDIAN
this is really cool. Asking critical and interesting questions but also joking and having fun.
Clicked on it for Böhmermann, then see one of my favorite bands First Aid Kit!
Same 👀😂💕
1:39 unfortunately that didnt go so well... hahha.. we europeans are way to confident about this freedom we got. many still take it for granted when actually we have to fight for it again.
Sadly true...

@Cykalee ja komm verpiss dich spiel weiter fortnite 😂
@Cykalee Sei leise und geh in dein Land du bist hier nicht erwünscht
This is the funniest, I have ever seen Jan. Ever. Srsly.
the real scandal is not what he is saying, but that he is german and funny.
True lmao
he's our best hope in germany
I didn't know Charlie Sheen moonlighted as a Scandinavian talk show host.
For us you are all friendly troll people .... lol. Well not really like that, but I have never seen any german complaining about skandinavian people at all.
GamesInsight Böhmermann is an idiot, we love Scandinavians! :)
I liked most of the interview, but i don't think norwegians found the skandinavian part funny
Mardas Man Kind of the point :P
and this should concern jan in which way?
In case u didn't notice insulting with true things is his (and many Germans) humor
The Germans have always been known for their comedy...
Myacono Not as good as this joke!
Myacono that’s what Jan Böhmerman says in his twitter bio: “comedian from the motherland of fun” 😉
to be fair, we ain't proud of hin either
Jasy Leh you dont speak for the whole german population hahahaha .
Jasy Leh, are you talking about Hitler or Boehmermann?
„Ehm Ehm Kaiserreich“ 🤣🤣🤣 bester Mann
Jens Böhnermann Ultras!
Not everybody gets sarcasm. Sad.
In Germany we say he's an Ehrenmann
We germans declar war against this comment section. Alle guten Dinge sind drei.
Isn't that First Aid Kit? My most favourite band and tv host in one show!
That certainly is First Aid Kit, yes! Thanks so much for watching!
I'm impressed how well Jan Böhmermann speaks.
I like how he takes over the interview .
thank you for the interview, very entertaining - greetings from germany
So to every english speaking reading this, He did this to show people how far satire is legally allowed to go. He uses his freespeech rights full out, to show what he can legally do. (and afterwards still get arrested because Germany is a coward in these situations since the 2000s and Erdogan does whatever he wants, even if hes not following the law)
And I absolutely love how they think hes meaning what he says, hes been f**king with them all the time. Like 5:11 that was a joke. But they think hes meaning it. Mabye because they think "Oh Germans have no humor"
This was actually super hillarious, great interview.
Ich vermisse dich in den Pietsmiet Kommentaren :D
Olaf Von Olafsen
Ja ne danke, hab nicht das Verlangen danach die zu stalken.

Considering the wars - Germany holds a record that no other Nation ever will break: We lost 100% of all the World Wars so far!
Austria, Japan, Italy ?
@@just2coolkk Bah - nobody really remembers THEM! Most Italians today believe they were on the Allieds side. (Damned, my bluff was found out! To the escape capsule! *KTSCHNK!* *HISSSSSSSSSSSSSS* *FLBTBLTBLTBLT!*)
Hungary
Is this really my favourite pale, thin boy from the neo corner? I actually didn't know that Jan improved his English in such a good way!! I would love to listen to a Fest&Flaushig episode in which Jan and Olli exclusively talk in English.
11:44 hehehehe that old hippie leather bag thinks that joke *was utterly repulsive* ... xD
Great to see how you folks take our sense of humour. Tack. :)
3:38 Struggles hard to avoid implying there is no free speech in Turkey.
I have never seen anything more German/Dutch humor than this.
I don‘t think they know what sarcasm is ...
The German Empire did in fact NOT start World War 1.
German here, hallo! Never ever ever write something like this publicly because we have to star another world war so that we can use this we lost two world wars joke again
Austrian twice
Gern gschegn du saupreis! :D
But the Germans granted them the possibility to start the war
we gave Austria a free pass (do what you want in case of war we will help you) so yeah, we didn't really started it but on the other side we did nothing to stop it either wich in my eyes is just as horrible as starting it.
my English is not the yellow from the egg but I'm a proud kartoffel
But Austria's empire had nothing left to take away after the First World War. that is why Germany did not get the sole blame but most of the punishments.
the joke at the end literally killed me 😂
Rip
3:11 Why is "It's complete nonsens but illegal nonsense" no a meme yet?
Böhmerman is great and always reveals inconsistencies.
We need people like Böhmermann in a lying and unjust society.
Thanks to the Team and keep it up.
I lost it at "friendly troll people" :D
"Next Time..."
Ohhh dude the light bulb joke!-)
😂👌🏽
That joke is used in the Netherlands very often to describe German lack of humour (which they don't).
Hätte nicht gedacht das sein Englisch so gut ist😂😂
Haha his English has such a strong accent. It's crazy that he is able to make the accent even stronger
Wanna laugh? Try searching for "Öttinger spricht englisch". It is a german politician trying hard to communicate. No joke.
An accent is just a foreign language spoken with the rules and sounds of the native language. You can do this with any two languages to several degrees. Certainly this also works with your language. 😉
The funniest thing is how the rest of the people react and don't get it
I don't now why, but i lost it when the moderator said: "It involves sex with animals" XD
Old dude looks like David Bowie‘s brother 😮
God awful and awkward talk show host!! At least the smart crowd somehow managed to save it with their laughs
oh man ich kann nicht mehr, manchmal ist der Böhmi einfach nur Lustig!!
i am german i am laughing so hard right now :D

This Interview is still so good.
It still is.
And still...
And still!
Still actually

lol, that look @4:42 after the english joke =D
Was macht denn James May in dem bunten Hemd auf der Bühne? :D
The host should work on NOT interrupting a guest during EVERY SINGLE answer.
